in an effort to truly recognize the simple pleasures in my life, i have compiled a list of random happenings that made the last seven days a lot brighter. (& trust me, they were all very much appreciated.)
Afternoon rain showers.  is there anything better when craving a good book &/or a nap?
Baby bliss. seeing a good friend in a pregnant state is one of the most beautiful moments to witness— the natural happiness, the styling of clothes & the glow…the glow is real & it’s gorgeous.
#DraftDay. i’ve loved Kevin Costner ever since I saw him in Bodyguard (it was my first rated-R movie. i was 8). the scene with the scarf & the knife, oh my! fast forward how ever many years later & insert him into a movie all about football & you’ve got yourself a set of scenes just as sexy as one dealing with scarves.
New ride. it’s been 3 days & it’s official, i’m in love. a heated steering wheel can make for a pretty smooth transition.
WAFFLE HOUSE. until this morning, i’d never been. my life has been forever changed, for the better.

in an effort to truly recognize the simple pleasures in my life, i have compiled a list of random happenings that made the last seven days a lot brighter. (& trust me, they were all very much appreciated.)
Cost Plus World Market. this store has become my go-to for home accessories (accent chairs included). i have discovered some of the most beautiful pillows, decorations, and outdoor flair at their Carmel location. plus, once you become a rewards member, there are plenty of coupons sent your way.
Lincoln Square Pancake House. after a mid-morning meeting, we headed over to Lincoln Square for brunch, and i have to say, their Meridian St. location makes one of the best omelets in town. an omelet from a pancake house? i failed to mention when you order an omelet, you have a choice of toast or pancakes (!!!). don’t let the facade fool you, step inside and be charmed.
Mid-day walk breaks. we’re fortunate that our office shares a block with one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the state, and therefore, we share some pretty sweet walking paths around the(ir) complex.  as the seasons have finally started to shift, the ladies in our office have been taking advantage of mid-day walking breaks. never have i looked forward to walking three miles more than i have on days when i can get out of the office for a little Vitamin D.
Nude heels. i can’t wait to bust out these beauties on a regular basis. sure, i suppose you can wear nude heels year round, but i’m more looking forward to the fact that i can stow away my beloved leather boots and start relying more heavily on some feminine heels.
Taco Bell Breakfast. while i will always be loyal to my one true love, Mackey’s, there’s nothing wrong with expanding the A.M. drive-thru selection. i picked up a variety of waffle tacos, flats, burritos and even their sweet Cinnabon treats, and gotta say, i definitely didn’t hate it. i mean…a waffle…eggs…bacon…and syrup? yes.
The Naked Monkey. a few years back, a Groupon led me to this cleverly named waxing locale, and even after my deal ran its course, i’ve remained quite loyal to my time with my girl, Mandi. sure waxing, of any kind, isn’t the most popular topic of discussion, but if you’re gonna do it, you might as well frequent a business where you know you’re in good hands. i cannot recommend The Naked Monkey enough. (3 locations around the city)
Zappos overnight delivery. there are very few times i’d deem it necessary to choose overnight delivery for a clothing item, and that’s why, with Zappos, you don’t have to choose. sometimes, they just do it up for you!

in an effort to truly recognize the simple pleasures in my life, i have compiled a list of random happenings that made the last seven days a lot brighter. (& trust me, they were all very much appreciated.)
Dreamsicle Daydreams. my new go-to candle. it smells way sweeter in the jar than it does while burning—which was a great, great relief as i’m typically not a fan of candles that smell like sugar highs. plus, this Woodwick wonder crackles like a fire. so, there’s that.
Derek Hough & Amy Purdy. until this week, i thought Derek’s contemporary dance with Kellie Pickler would go down as my most favorite of DWTS, but then Derek & his new partner Amy performed the most touching contemporary dance.  it was beautiful…as was her story before they hit the floor.
Media Training. on Tuesday, i attended an all-day media training session, and i learned more in those eight hours than i have in a very long while. a part of me still wonders why i never considered a degree in communication, but regardless, i’m glad i now have the chance to pick up a few tricks of the trade.
Pinata apples. i had no idea what i was buying when i picked up half a dozen, but the pinata apple definitely rivals the beloved Honeycrisp in its deliciousness.
Upland Brewery.i’ve consumed a few of their brews, but never visited one of their tap houses until last night. the reclaimed wood, the pendant lights, the Helios Pale & the tasty fish tacos (made with salmon!) were everything i needed on a Thursday night.

in an effort to truly recognize the simple pleasures in my life, i have compiled a list of random happenings that made the last seven days a lot brighter. (& trust me, they were all very much appreciated.)
Be The Match. on Wednesday morning, i received a message from Bro #2 that he’d donated 12 tubes of blood. “why?" i asked. "For Be The Match" he answered. he then proceeded to tell me that i should do the same, because someone out there might benefit. so, i registered & am currently awaiting my swab kit. you could never receive a call to actually donate, but if you do, i’m guessing you wouldn’t regret the opportunity.
Cadbury Mini Eggs. these little nugget of smooth sugar are my favorite of the Easter season. they’ve become a tradition in my parent’s house & one i will wholeheartedly continue for years to come.
Currently on repeat. A few songs that i don’t mind hearing on the radio: “Give Me Love,” “MMM Yeah,” & “The Man.” when it comes to music, if it ignites a karaoke session in the car, it’s good enough for me.
Denim & Supply. besides my beloved classic Polo and JCrew button downs, my Denim & Supply bounty is easily a top three contender. definitely recommend for their quality, style & comfort level.
Oikos Greek Yogurt with Fruit on the Bottom. blueberry & strawberry & raspberry, oh my!
Trish McEvoy Beauty Balm. big fan. evens out the skin, doesn’t feel heavy & lasts for hours. i’m by no means a beauty products girl, so the fact i incorporate this into my daily routine is kind of a big deal for my make up bag.

in an effort to truly recognize the simple pleasures in my life, i have compiled a list of random happenings that made the last seven days a lot brighter. (& trust me, they were all very much appreciated.)
City walks/runs. there’s something about walking and/or running through the streets of the city as a cohesive clan. regardless of pace, the ability to look through windows & take in views otherwise dismissed is a wonderful thing.
Doggy drugs. without the added prescriptions from our beloved vet, Bentley would still be absolutely miserable. fortunately, we finally found a few (yes, a few) that seem to be doing the trick. (t-3 days til staples are removed!)
Hoosier Hospitality. i suppose living in the suburbs can have its ups & downs, but here lately, i’ve experienced more ups than downs. last night, while rolling out my trash cans, my neighbor lady invited me on a tentative walk date. she also invited me on a tentative wine date. now, whether or not we can coordinate these two events to take place at the same time is beyond me, but i’m more than willing to try if it means hanging out with my fifty-something neighbor who possesses a better fashion sense than yours truly.
Kind men. there’s something about a genuine compliment, a solid laugh & a particular look into a guy’s eyes that easily captures attention—the best kind at that. it’s rare, but definitely not overrated.
Mama J. another year older, but another year filled with support on the deepest level. it’s always been interesting to me that your lowest point often reveals the true colors in those who you once thought meant the most, & this last year, when i was at a lower than i would’ve care to be low, Mama shined when i needed her the most. i am so proud to be her daughter & have always admired her heart for others…& for me.
Simple favors. the smallest actions often have a greater impact than you ever could expect.
Zest. their scrambled Uptown omelet is divine. as is their made-from-scratch strawberry jam.

in an effort to truly recognize the simple pleasures in my life, i have compiled a list of random happenings that made the last seven days a lot brighter. (& trust me, they were all very much appreciated.)
Cheerios. Dark Chocolate Crunch and Peanut Butter are my go-to, but that doesn’t mean i’m opposed to Multigrain or Classic.
Free shipping. at this point, it really should be the norm.
Homemade Ranch. Hidden Valley Buttermilk Ranch packets are the main reason i consume so many vegetables. Plus, pepperoni thin crust pizza dipped in ranch? dead.
Pi day. an excuse to eat PiE? yes.
Prime…as in Amazon.com. raising the price to $99/year is not going to turn me away. do you realize how many odd purchases i make on Amazon.com throughout the year? it’s so worth the expense.
Under-eye cream. because crows feet are nothing to mess around with. where did these fine lines come from? & when did i start researching under-eye creams like it’s my job?
Veterinarians. just like a decent doctor, a caring vet should be recognized for loving our dog like their own, & this has very much been the case this week. Bentley’s surgery was a success and now the recovery begins. we knew Bentley was in good hands— Bentley hasn’t ever been as calm as she’s been with this one. we’re so thankful!

in an effort to truly recognize the simple pleasures in my life, i have compiled a list of random happenings that made the last seven days a lot brighter. (& trust me, they were all very much appreciated.)
Flex hours. if you work 12 hours one day, you don’t have to work as many the next—that’s how our office runs. on days we have big events, it’s nice knowing the next morning we can sleep in…at least past 4 am.
Gap jeans. one positive of waking up before 8 am on weekends is that you’re given the natural opportunity to shop online…or be productive— be your battles. regardless, last weekend, i was up before 8, discovered a 40% off denim deal & am in love with some new blues.
Hand mixer. i’m so in love with my big counter top mixer, i hadn’t given the Kitchenaid hand mixer much credit. until last night, when i was making chocolate butter-cream frosting for celebration cakes. that little motorized nugget is a gem.
Meridian. this place is amazing. for years, i’d driven by the restaurant that resides in a historic house, but finally stopped in for one of the most delicious meals i’ve had in days, months, years. i would highly recommend this establishment if you’re looking for an upscale/higher end meal.
Proposals. yesterday, i was honored to be apart of a proposal. in my almost 30 years, i’d never witnessed a proposal firsthand, so this was a real treat. it was a little Love Actually mixed with a little reality tv show gold…pretty great stuff. plus, she said yes (!!!).
Three Dog Bakery. my co-worker surprised me by picking up some doggy truffles for Bentley while she was out on her lunch break. if i didn’t know better, i would’ve thought they were human treats (& honestly, i’m still not convinced they’re not). if you’re looking to spoil your pooch, check out this place & consider the truffles.
True Detectives. i keep hearing rave reviews of this show, & after 4 episodes, i have no idea in hell what is going on. the only thing i know is that is a been a great topic of conversation with other lost minds, & maybe that’s the point…along with staring at Matthew McConaughey.

in an effort to truly recognize the simple pleasures in my life, i have compiled a list of random happenings that made the last seven days a lot brighter. (& trust me, they were all very much appreciated.)
Crockpots. every time i make a crockpot meal, i think “i should do this more often.” i think it’s finally time i make it a ritual, like those people who make meals for the week on Sunday’s. i should make a crockpot cuisine at least once every couple weeks. that slow cooker really is a miracle.
Kind VMs. on Monday morning, i ignored a random phone call & then came upon this. it really doesn’t take much to restore my faith in people.
Mint.com. someone somewhere (probably some magazine editor) suggested Mint.com to stay on top of my finances. i didn’t think it could hurt, so i enrolled & gave it a go. needless to say, i like it…a lot. you can set budgeting goals, allowances, etc. for anything from food to fashion.  at the end of the month, each & every purchase gets categorized so you can see where you could save/spend more/less.
Orange citrus glazed cookies. in December, the Indy Star hosted a cookie recipe contest. being the lover of citrus that i am, one recipe caught my eye, & given the amount of clementines i’ve consumed as of late, i figured i might as well throw some oranges in my mixer & do some baking. so, that’s what i did. you guys, these cookies are absolutely amazing. nice time, i’m gonna use lemons…because, you know, dream big.
Schoolboy blazers. i’ve been on a “buy blazers because they’re classic” kick. after asking santa for a blazer for Christmas, i’ve discovered a few J.Crew sales where i procured a couple more. these preppy pieces will be perfect for appearances.

in an effort to truly recognize the simple pleasures in my life, i have compiled a list of random happenings that made the last seven days a lot brighter. (& trust me, they were all very much appreciated.)
Bold & the Beautiful. it’s a 25+ year love affair going strong. can’t stop, won’t stop…no matter how bad the acting/plot/music/etc gets, it’s 24 minutes of my day that i’ll never regret. (thanks, Mama.)
Goody hair ties [hair rubberband? hair things? hair elastics?]. i don’t need a $25 pack of 3, give me the good ole Goody’s & let’s call it a day.
Jimmy Fallon. i was not an avid Jay Leno watcher, but i am definitely a fal pal. no one does Late Night like Jimmy, & i am so glad he brought my other love, Brilly Willy, into this week’s mix.
Luna Bars. the item i craved the most while going sugarfree wasn’t the typical cupcake or a bowl of cereal or pancake… it was the 180-ish calorie Luna Bar. they’re part of my daily breakfast/snacking routine. they calm my pangs & keep me out of that cranky stage— my diet was so lonely without them.
Vanilla Chai Tea. in an effort to mix things up, i’ve been brewing more tea. & by brewing, i mean i press the red button on the water cooler at work signaling for hot water & then add a tea bag into the mug. this week’s tea of choice? chai [with a little cream].

in an effort to truly recognize the simple pleasures in my life, i have compiled a list of random happenings that made the last seven days a lot brighter. (& trust me, they were all very much appreciated.)
Justin Timberlake. this man. his concert. oh my, oh my.
My Nebraska Girls. considering i’ve known these girls since i was 18, it’s amazing to me that we’ve remained so close. not only because of the challenge due to distance, but because of how much has occurred in our lives over the past 11 years. after spending yet another night with them, we all had a mutual feeling of contentment & admiration for how far we’ve each come. collectively, we’ve seen each other overcome such life-changing obstacles that our friendship is not only based on respect, but on an intimate level knowing our secrets will never get out…lord knows, that would be bad.
Opinions. one of the greatest aspects of blogging is that every blogger has his/her opinions about food, travel, style, marriage, sports, etc etc etc. & while i attempt to keep my opinions about other’s lives/interests at bay, i appreciate the openness of those who express theirs. it makes the world go round,it really does. but let’s all remember, life’s too short to worry about eating, traveling to, wearing, dating, or cheering for some(thing/where/one) you don’t adore. be you, be happy. you’ve got this!
Safe flights. sitting in a three-seat-across, 20 row plane while speeding through thunderclouds is not my idea of fun; however, if it’s gotta happen, i’m glad it’s thanks to a handsome pilot delivering us from point A to point B.
Sugar. i went 28 days without it in my life, & i am so glad it’s back…in moderation.
Valentine’s Day. it’s a day to tell those you love that they’re loved. it’s a day to do something kind for a stranger, to eat chocolate because you damn well feel like it, to thank your lucky stars you’re not dating the wrong person, & to treat yoself, because why the hell not.

  • My Nebraska Girls. considering i’ve known these girls since i was 18, it’s amazing to me that we’ve remained so close. not only because of the challenge due to distance, but because of how much has occurred in our lives over the past 11 years. after spending yet another night with them, we all had a mutual feeling of contentment & admiration for how far we’ve each come. collectively, we’ve seen each other overcome such life-changing obstacles that our friendship is not only based on respect, but on an intimate level knowing our secrets will never get out…lord knows, that would be bad.
  • Opinions. one of the greatest aspects of blogging is that every blogger has his/her opinions about food, travel, style, marriage, sports, etc etc etc.
  • Safe flights. sitting in a three-seat-across, 20 row plane while speeding through thunderclouds is not my idea of fun; however, if it’s gotta happen, i’m glad it’s thanks to a handsome pilot delivering us from point A to point B.
  • Sugar. i went 28 days without it in my life, & i am so glad it’s back…in moderation.
  • Valentine’s Day. it’s a day to tell those you love that they’re loved. it’s a day to do something kind for a stranger, to eat chocolate because you damn well feel like it, to thank your lucky stars you’re not dating the wrong person, & to treat yoself, because why the hell not.
Hi! I'm Brooke. Indianapolis is my home & I welcome you to my little nook. I'm a twenty-something girl who was born in the land of corn (Okl.), attended undergrad in the true Sea of Red (Neb.), & eventually found her way back home again after picking up a couple letters behind her name (Kan.) while clinging to an adorable Maltipoo named Bentley. Thank you for stopping by & please feel free to leave a comment (or ask a question) under the "Be Kind" tab at the top... xo, B
