dear blogging world,

yesterday, somewhere between Cincinnati & Des Moines, Kait & i met up for lunch.

just two long distance friends being reunited (i could almost hear the song playing throughout the restaurant… “reunited & it feels so good…”)

it really was so good.

four years ago, i never thought this platform would bring such great people into my life…man, what a fool i used to be!

once upon a time, a “like” turned into a “you’re pretty” message turned into a “hi, i promise i’m not creepy, i just really like your blog” email turned into our 1st in real life meeting turned into a long exchange filled with sentiments that can only be expressed between true friends.

i am so grateful for the opportunities that have come from this blog,

but more importantly than anything else,

i am grateful for the people i’ve met along the way—

i’d be lost without them.

xo,

B

smile friday:

last night, i was reunited with my favorite fatty patty counterpart

(side note: can we officially be done with fatty patty? skinny minny perhaps? maybe? think about it)

though i did just see her one week ago,

i miss being able to stop over at her cube on the daily.

it’s a good thing we’re real life friends & are getting real good at making up excuses to carry on mini-reunions.

she’s a really great egg, one of the best, actually,

& in the spirit of staying as optimistic as humanly possible,

i will officially declare that ashley is one of the best takeaways i have from my past employer.

some say there’s a reason for everything, & i wholeheartedly believe she was one of the reasons i was supposed to be where i was for last 17 months.

(i mean, just look at that hair!)

(p.s. Congrats on making it through the 1st week at your new gig, friend! so proud of you!)

a happy story (!!!):

a few weekends ago, i met this pretty girl, crissy, for brunch.

at Petit chou, they are known for their serve yourself coffee.

you grab a mug from the coffee mug tree & fill ‘er up yourself.

crissy & i usually grab a table, set down our handbags & bolt straight for the brew.

except on that particular saturday, i arrived a couple minutes late, crissy was already seated & she was drinking orange juice & h2o.

i walked in, set down my handbag, gave her side eye & said, “no coffee?”

she sweetly responded, “not today”

“are you sure? i can grab you a cup" i offered.

i immediately knew the news.

as i sat back down, we caught up on a couple life events before she she finally revealed, “i’m pregnant!!!”

i clapped like she was my star athlete receiving a shiny gold trophy, & i couldn’t stop smiling!

crissy is my family.

she is the sister i never had yet adopted as my own at the age of 13.

i am so, so happy for her & her sweet husband, adam…

the baby is due this coming january & i already have hair bows picked out for a girl & preppy perfection picked out for a boy.

it’s no secret that i already adore brunch, but the news served that Saturday surpassed all other meals!

dear kelsey,

without your friendship & support, my inner shine would be oh, so dreary & dull. over the last few years, you’ve been there for me when i wasn’t sure i could be there for myself, & i will never forget it.

happy birthday, pretty!

i am so, so happy for your 28th year.

xoxo,

this is Emily.

Emily & i have been friends since the fourth grade.

(the fourth grade!!!)

who knew a friendship once filled with over-sized tie-dyed tees, silk vests, slumber parties, a shared love of scrunchies, & countless hours discussing school boy crushes would last close to twenty years?

Saturday night, after being treated to dinner with Em & her adorable husband,

we changed into our comfies, turned on Miss America, poured some wine, & caught up on lost time.

i’m so grateful for friendships like that with Emily.

after all these years, after all the places we’ve both lived, after all of our own life experiences,

we’re still able to find that comfort & acceptance-

& that shit never gets old!

smile friday: spending time with Paige last night & this morning was definitely a highlight of this weekend’s excursion.

November 26th, 2012

pre-Christmas decorating, i hosted a dinner party.

it was nothing special in terms of cuisine,

although we did manage to cash out three bottles of wine & enough pizza to feed a kindergarten class,

but the company, the company was absolutely fabulous.

there are some people that you know will always be in your life- who have already been in your life for years- who introduce you to their friends because they know you’ll want them in your life, too…

these were the people that stopped by on Friday night.

what a fun, fun night that was…

(big shout out to Ben, Emel, & Patrick…miss you already! xo)

p.s. that pictured bottle of Malbec, Luigi Bosca, is one of BR’s favorites. the week i moved into my house, he brought me 1/2 a case. what a wonderful father!

October 2nd, 2012

i met Paige when I was a freshman in college and within a few days, I knew we should be real friends.

throughout the 10+ years that she’s been in my life,

through living together in a precious bungalow across from campus,

giddily laughing while out at sorority parties,

recounting the events of said parties the morning after,

singing at her wedding,

scheduling reunions in Nebraska, Iowa, & Florida,

staying in touch via texts, calls, & snail mail,

leaning on each other through some seriously sucky times,

cheering on each other through promotions (her), dates (me), spandex-wearing volleyball games (her) & big moves to cowboy country (me),

& every other memory that took place in between,

i can say, without a doubt, that the events that have transpired over the last ten months have brought us closer than ever.

i am so proud of this girl & oh, so honored to still call her a friend.

August 21st, 2012

most Mondays start out with a way too early morning,

followed by 10+ hours of work,

topped off with reality t.v. & a more drastic attempt at acquiring the beauty sleep that was not found the night before.

last night wasn’t like most Mondays.

last night, i had a scheduled dinner date with two of my favorite ex-co-workers, Molly & Ingrid.

these girls were my saving grace when it came to working retail

& these girls have the ability of cracking me up more than most.

we had been looking forward to finally seeing each other after unusually hectic summers & settled on trying out a new-to-us restaurant, Late Harvest Kitchen.

trust me, the company & the local eatery did not disappoint.

sometimes, making plans takes some effort,

but when the plans revolve around meeting up with girls like this,

they never disappoint!

Smile Tuesday: Sunday was for this little baby’s baptism (& also an excuse to wear one of my favorite Milly dresses). It was such a lovely way to start the morning…there’s so much love for this little tot.

Hi! I'm Brooke. Indianapolis is my home & I welcome you to my little nook. I'm a twenty-something girl who was born in the land of corn (Okl.), attended undergrad in the true Sea of Red (Neb.), & eventually found her way back home again after picking up a couple letters behind her name (Kan.) while clinging to an adorable Maltipoo named Bentley. Thank you for stopping by & please feel free to leave a comment (or ask a question) under the "Be Kind" tab at the top... xo, B
