daily outfit: the “Baby B’s Baby Shower" edition.

yesterday morning, i had the honor of attending Ashley's baby shower at Rick’s Boatyard Cafe.

close to thirty ladies came together to celebrate the baby boy who will be lovingly welcomed this July.

it was a beautiful celebration…one where floral pants seemed totally necessary.

i’m thinkin’ imma need some spring floral on my stems.

Jocelyn: [at a board meeting over the April issue] Well… they’re showing a lot of florals right now, so I was thinking…
Miranda Priestly: Florals? For spring? Ground breaking.

yup, doin’ it.

daily outfit: the “purple poncho” edition.

a few weeks ago, Mama & i stopped at the outlets down in Edinburgh en route to Louisville.

always one willing to add some spring color to an otherwise neutral look, i slipped on this ralph lauren lavender poncho & kind of didn’t hate it.

i sent a text to Ashley who confirmed it would be a good option for a rainy day,

& turns out, rain is indeed in today’s forecast.

never the less, after a month having passed since the original procurement, i still don’t hate it, & in fact, with all black, i kind of love it.

daily outfit: the “Denim & Supply" edition

this one of my favorite spring button downs.

it’s a thicker linen & it’s plaid. these two details alone urge me to whip out this beaut for a 50+ degree day.

done & done.

daily outfit: the “still sweater dress weather" edition.

deciding to wear a sweater dress was the only appropriate thought that crossed my mind when i heard the weather man announce the 18 degree temperature outside.

at least it’s sunny?

Clinton Kelly at Macy’s

For many years I knew Clinton Kelly from “What Not To Wear” fame, but over the last two years, I’ve watched him on ABC’s “The Chew.”

The man not only has great style, but gives some of the most useful advice.

Last night, i had the privilege of attending Mr. Kelly’s “Girls Night Out” event at Macy’s here in Indianapolis. Joined alongside 75+ fashion-loving women, we watched a mini fashion show highlighting five of the top Spring trends (think: moto jackets, lace, florals).

The show lasted about forty minutes & was quickly followed by a Q & A session with the audience.

When the question arose, “How did you get into this whole fashion advice field?" Kelly responded in one of the classiest ways possible,

Honestly, I fell into it and for the first year of ‘What Not to Wear’ I kept on wondering, ‘why me? what’s the point of all this?’” Then Kelly continued, “I realized that I really have no interest in celebrities & their fashion choice. I don’t…it’s why I will never do a red carpet show. Each celebrity has a team behind them allowing them to look more fabulous. Sure, there are celebrities who nail it time and time again, but I realized that I wanted to help real women, the everyday women who want to feel more beautiful through clothes they can afford, through looks they can achieve, and with bodies that aren’t made thanks to hired trainers & chefs. After one year alongside Stacy London, I get so much more pleasure from helping real women find style that works for them.

His response earned quite the applause.

After the show, I went backstage and met with Clinton. “Do I know you?" he asked. "Well, you tweeted me the other day,” I remarked. “That must be it, I recognize you from your picture on there.”

I was flattered, but not delusional, guys. I think he took me for someone else.

& so i digress, first topic of discussion between me & CK? Our mutual love for Chrissy Teigen, of course, shortly followed by Clinton being the most charming man—so easy to talk with, so tall, & so handsome!

We posed for a picture, I introduced him to Mama, & then he went into to “What Not To Wear” mode.

I mean, come on!

After our impromptu fashion session, I was handed a copy of his new book “Freakin Fabulous on a Budget,” Clinton left me a yearbook-styled note, & we parted ways.

My hour-long evening with Clinton Kelly was one of the most entertainingly random nights in a long while, but I would do it again in an instant— next time, i’d probably wear more fabulous shoes.

daily outfit: the “contract negotiation" edition.

today starts with a pretty crucial meeting— one where big hair, a classic dress & a little sparkle seems necessary.

happy friday indeed, friends!

Hi! I'm Brooke. Indianapolis is my home & I welcome you to my little nook. I'm a twenty-something girl who was born in the land of corn (Okl.), attended undergrad in the true Sea of Red (Neb.), & eventually found her way back home again after picking up a couple letters behind her name (Kan.) while clinging to an adorable Maltipoo named Bentley. Thank you for stopping by & please feel free to leave a comment (or ask a question) under the "Be Kind" tab at the top... xo, B
